From spooky stories to ghost hunts, there are plenty of iPhone apps to help you level up your Halloween party this year. Here are the best choices.

Halloween iPhone Apps for Spooky Fun

When planning ahead for Halloween, it’s best to consider your target audience. While your adult friends might be happy receiving scary video calls from killer clowns, your ten-year-old will probably find it hard to sleep after seeing something like that.

We’ve thus broken down our list of apps for Halloween fun with clear age ratings, for your convenience.

1. Creepypasta (12+)

Creepypasta is a free iPhone app that’s packed with free short stories. As the name suggests, they are all unsettling tales. The iPhone version is free to download and lets you access a selection of stories. Alternatively, you can pay a few dollars to access the full catalog for a month.

The app allows you to search by categories alphabetically, or via the search bar if you’ve got a specific theme in mind. Searching for “school,” for example, brings up three free stories and 39 locked stories. The database clearly shows you the length of each story, so you can find one to fit the time available at the moment.

You can also sort by reading time, by tapping the menu icon on the top-right of the screen. You can also favorite stories, or mark them as read so you don’t forget what you’ve already seen.

2. Ghost Radar: Legacy (4+)

If you’re looking for an app that will get your party guests (or kids) moving, why not plan a ghost hunt?

We walked around a local spooky house using it, and the app showed several blips on the radar. According to Ghost Radar, this indicates there’s a ghostly presence. The app also spoke several words during our ghost hunt. These included: “sale,” “hand,” “buried,” “letter,” “adult,” “creature,” “easily,” and “adult.”

It’s worth noting that Ghost Radar’s App Store listing states that “since results from this application cannot be verified scientifically, the app should be used for entertainment purposes.”

While we can’t guarantee the app’s results are “real,” they certainly caused us to scream and laugh a lot. Thus, it’s a great app to use when you’re on a spooky walk this Halloween. The app is free, but it does have in-app ads. You can take advantage of in-app purchases to remove ads, get more spoken word storage, and access the Vox settings.

iPhone Apps to Help Create a Great Halloween Party

When you’re planning a Halloween party, there’s so much to consider. Thankfully, the App Store contains plenty of apps that help you create an awesome party. From designing party invitations to creating spooky cocktails, there’s something for everyone!

3. Invitation Card Maker Studio (4+)

Invitation Card Maker Studio contains plenty of different Halloween invitation templates to choose from in the free version. These range from cute family-friendly designs to eerie styles that are great for a more mature recipient. If you need more templates, you can opt to subscribe for full access.

Once you’ve chosen your invitation, personalizing it is easy. You tap on each editable part of the invitation, change the details, and then save it. There’s the option to save as a PDF, save the image to your photos, or share it. You can also print it straight from the app, if your printer is connected to your iPhone.

With the free version, your final invitation will have a Greetings Island watermark on it. The app gives you the option to sign up for the free trial at this point too, so all is not lost if you didn’t realize this before creating your masterpiece.

What’s great is that you only need to create one invitation for all recipients. Whether you print off your invitations to hand out in person or choose to send them via email, social media, or text, this app offers a full Halloween invitation package.

4. Lists To do (4+)

Any kind of party planning requires a lot of organization. The Lists To do app will help you work through what feels like a mammoth task by breaking it down into small pieces. This free app takes to-do lists to another level.

You can create multiple lists for all aspects of your event, as well as categorize your to-do lists. So you can have one list for party food, one for decorations, and another for invitations, for example.

As the above image shows, you can add a cute graphic next to each to-do list, helping you can find your required list quickly. (We had to pick the pumpkin for Halloween!) When you tap on a list, you can clearly see the tasks you need to do. Once you’ve completed a task, just tick it off. It’s really easy to add or remove items, so you can keep the lists current.

Alternatively, you can leave the ticked-off items in place, so you can see how much you’ve achieved. You can also share a list with contacts, print it, or save it to Pinterest, your files, or Dropbox. So even if you prefer a paper list, this app can still be a great tool.

5. Tasty (4+)

Tasty is a free video recipe app that allows registered users to post their own recipes. You don’t need to register to use it, though. Once downloaded, you can browse around, or search for a specific recipe or keyword. When you search for “Halloween” hundreds of recipes appear, covering food and drink.

All of the recipes have videos to follow, so it’s great for those without much experience in the kitchen. Each recipe also has the ingredients, servings, special equipment required, nutritional information, and the method written down. There are also tips from other registered users who have tried the recipe themselves. When you find a recipe you love, you can save it to easily find it again later.

Whether you’re looking for spooky snacks or creepy cocktails, there are plenty of other kitchen iPhone apps to help you get your Halloween menu sorted.
